Description: For some time, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) [1, 2] was a unit of the Department of the Treasury, authorized to conduct inspections, once during any 12-month period and without a warrant, for compliance with statutory requirements, or in the course of a criminal investigation of a person other than the licensee, or where the disposition of firearms must be determined (the Gun Control Act (GCA), 18 U.S.C. § 923(g)(1)(B)). ATF is also authorized to inspect inventory and records by securing from a Federal magistrate judge a relevant warrant (18 U.S.C. § 923(g)(1)(A)). Customs officers may also inspect any firearms or related articles imported or exported from the U.S. Limitations on the rights of certain persons, associated with manufacturing, importing and dealing in firearms in the United States. Provisions of the Gun Control Act (GCA) stipulate that it is unlawful for certain categories of persons to ship, transport, receive or possess firearms (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)). It is also unlawful to sell or otherwise dispose of firearms to the persons (18 U.S.C. § 922(d)): who are under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year; who have been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year; who are fugitives from justice; who are unlawful users of or addicted to any controlled substance; who are illegally or unlawfully in the United States; who have been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions; who, having been a citizen of the United States, have renounced their citizenship; who are subject to a court order that restrains such person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner of such person or child of such intimate partner or person, or have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence (as stipulated by the Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act, 1997, Pub.
