Description: As of today, the reason for the unique composition of the Standard Model (SM) gauge group remains elusive. Taking complex-scalar field theory as benchmark model, we argue here that the SM group unfolds sequentially from the flow of the self-interaction coupling. Numerical estimates are found to be reasonably consistent with experimental data.
